Family TV uses YouTube API Services.
By using Family TV, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.
Plans
Family TV is an iOS app for iPad and iPhone, listed on the App Store as Family TV Shelf. It is a subscription for your whole family: $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Billing goes through the App Store, and you are charged when you subscribe. The price shown in the store is what you’ll be charged.
Apple handles billing, cancellation and refunds, and refunds follow Apple’s rules. Your plan renews through Apple until you cancel. You manage renewal and cancel in your App Store account settings.
If your plan ends, the app stops working until you subscribe again.
What the checks do
Videos come only from single videos, channels and playlists a parent has approved.
Each video is checked right before it plays. A video is skipped if it is blocked, private, not embeddable, age-restricted or not available in your country.
The checks rely on what YouTube reports about each video, so we can’t promise what any video contains.
Family TV checks every video before it plays. Creators’ own on-screen cards near the end of a video can briefly show other videos before the player closes. Tapping one opens nothing.
Ads
Family TV adds no ads of its own and has no ad or analytics code. Videos play in YouTube’s own player, which may show YouTube’s ads. On videos marked Made for Kids those ads aren’t personalized; on other videos a parent approves, YouTube may show its regular ads. Tapping an ad does nothing in Family TV.
Your data
Watch history and kid profiles stay on this device. The app has no crash reporting.
To check videos, the app sends our server only video and channel IDs and an anonymous subscription token. Nothing about your child is attached: no name, age band or profile. Our Privacy page explains the few other things our server gets, such as a grown-up’s search words, which are never stored.
To get that token, the app sends our server your store receipt: the first time it checks videos after the app starts, and again whenever its token is more than 12 hours old. The receipt belongs to the grown-up’s App Store account, and nothing about your child goes with it. The server checks it with Apple, then discards it without saving or logging it.
Videos play in YouTube’s own player, which sends Google your device’s IP address and the video being watched. YouTube’s Terms of Service and Google’s Privacy Policy apply to that.
What parents can see
Parents can see what was watched, when, and for how long.
Supervision
Family TV helps you manage what your kids watch. It doesn’t replace a grown-up keeping an eye on things.
